Chat-Up Lines that Might Actually Work
Sure, chat-up lines seem a bit passé, but a recent UK poll revealed that four out of ten women are currently dating someone who came on with a pick-up line.
Here are a few lines (almost) guaranteed to get her number…or at least a little face time.
1. Aren’t you…?
This simple approach is an effective way to gauge a woman’s interest and open the door to more communication. If she seems receptive, follow up with something like, “Well, how strange! You look just like a woman in my cooking club,” which not only continues the conversation but also lets her know something more about you.
2. That’s a great book!
Picking up on a personal detail shows a woman you’ve noticed her. Comment on her White Stripes t-shirt, the colour of her sunglasses, or the book she’s perusing in the shop to let her know you’re interested in learning more.
3. What’s your dog’s name?
Making small talk about a “prop” – whether it’s the newspaper she’s reading, the latte she’s got in hand, or the dog she’s walking – is a fantastic icebreaker. You can get a bit personal without being creepy, and will usually have plenty of room for follow-up conversation.
4. Can I buy you a drink?
Yes! This old stand-by still works. It’s simple, it’s genuine, and it shows some class and sophistication. Just be sure to let the woman pick her own poison, and let her stand with you while you order so she won’t suspect you of trying to drug her.
