Internet dating

With the advent of the internet society has changed significantly in many ways.  A tool for communication has grown into a world wide social network.  While talking with friends and chatting with colleagues has been a run of the mill occurrence online, as users acquaint themselves with web communities and cultures, they become more open to meeting new people.  While personal ads and dating services have existed for decades, online dating has shifted this social dynamic significantly, and many don’t know what to expect or how to act.

This is why it is important to understand the do’s and don’ts of internet dating.  While useful suggestions, such as keeping all photographs recent and relevant, can apply to either men or women, it’s important to note that in most dating communities women are in the minority.  A recent photograph and a very honest description of yourself may seem like a quick way to turn people away before you get a chance to meet them, but better that than the disappointment of an awkward meeting.

While each community has its own user base and unique cultural community, honesty is paramount all across the board.  While the language of dating sites tends to put facts and figures in descriptions in one’s favour, these terms have become overused and clichéd. There are thousands of dating profiles online, and while this means that there are untold opportunities to meet people, it also means that the usual tactics of exaggeration are everywhere, and aren’t really fooling anyone.

Free online dating services are available but do not expect the same level of service that you will receive if you pay.
